A key principle of the Environmental Justice (EJ) movement is to involve the communities most affected by pollution, toxins, and other environmental problems in the public decision-making process. This project seeks to create a community-centered strategic plan to guide future research on health and air quality in the Imperial Valley. It is expected to be completed in 18 months from the start date, including the delivery of the community-focused strategic research plan. When tackling a community project in Sacramento, CA, there are several challenges that should be taken into account.
Firstly, it is important to comprehend the sources of air pollution, the conditions that lead to an increase in air pollution in the area, and the gaps in air pollution research. Additionally, it is essential to be aware of the needs of individual communities suffering from health issues related to exposure to air pollution. The project will be based on tasks 1 and 2 to develop a list of research priorities on air quality and health, in close coordination with community members and community organizations. It is also important to regularly create several documents and presentations throughout the project that effectively summarize the current state and the way in which all information is combined. Moreover, when working on a community project in Sacramento, CA, it is important to consider the emerging market for project management in professional services such as health. The Honors Program offers students the opportunity to challenge themselves intellectually in three-unit Honors Scholars courses.
Additionally, every spring, students who attend this forum lobby their elected representatives in Congress in the hope of shaping and promoting future legislation that benefits all students, especially those from underserved communities. Finally, it is important to be aware of the experience of Ahmad at ARC. He found that his experience was not only rewarding but also prepared him to successfully transfer and participate in his new university community. In conclusion, when working on a community project in Sacramento, CA, it is essential to take into account several challenges such as understanding sources of air pollution, developing documents and presentations throughout the project, understanding emerging markets for project management in professional services such as health, lobbying elected representatives in Congress for future legislation that benefits all students, and being aware of Ahmad's experience at ARC.
